Latest NewsThe 2010 Northamptonshire County Championships turned out to be the most successful ever for RSC, a fitting achievement to mark the club's 80th birthday. A record 30 swimmers (14 girls, 16 boys) were competing and by the end of the Championships 120 PBs had been achieved including 48 club records and 14 Regional qualifying times. Competition got underway in February with the 1500m and 800m freestyle taking place at Corby over separate weekends. In the 1500m all three of our swimmers finished in the top 10. Andrew Ward (age group 15 years) was 6th, Marcus Eaton (15 yrs) 7th and Jack Britchford (13 yrs) 9th. All the boys achieved PBs. The 800m resulted in even more success with five swimmers in the top 10 this time, more than any other club. Andrew Ward (15 yrs) was 4th, Laurence Stead (14 yrs) 5th, Marcus Eaton (15yrs) 7th, Jack Britchford (13 yrs) 8th and Ian Yarwood (14 yrs) 10th. Once again all achieved excellent PBs. The shorter events took place over the first two weekends in March. The 50m sprints in all strokes plus the 100/200m Individual Medleys were held at Daventry's 25m pool, while the Corby 50m pool hosted the 100/200/400m events. At the end of this exhausting schedule a superb set of results had been achieved. BAGCAT Top 6 placings - girls up to age 13/boys up to 14 - all receive trophies Boys 9 years - Danny Savage 1st, Michael Clifford 4th Age Group Top 6 placings - girls 14 and over/boys 15 and over - First 3 places receive trophies Boys 15 years - Andrew Ward 3rd, Marcus Eaton 6th Special mention must be made of Andrew Ward's achievements. He won the 200m Butterfly, reached the finals for 100m IM (6th), 100m Backstroke (3rd), 100m Freestyle (7th) and 100m Butterfly (4th), and had top 6 finishes in 200m IM (3rd), 400m Freestyle (6th), 200m Freestyle (6th) and 400m IM (4th). Other notable achievements were Laurence Stead 4th in the final of the 100m Backstroke and 4th in the 200m Backstroke. The Boys' 100m Backstroke was a particular success with 3 Rushden boys (Andrew, Laurence & Marcus) in the final. Sam Henman was well placed in the Breaststroke events coming 7th in the final of the 100m and 4th in the 200m for which he won the Junior Shield. Bethany Saunders (10 yrs) did exceptionally well to finish 6th in the Girls' 200m Butterfly. Andy McMahon was 5th in the 50m Butterfly. The final of event of the Championships was the Boys' 4x100m Freestyle Relay where a tremendous performance by Andrew Ward, Laurence Stead, Jack Britchford and Matt Aitken secured 3rd place behind Northampton and Kettering.
