Coaches and Volunteers
Code of Conduct
- Consider the well-being and safety of participants
before the development on performance.
- Comply with the codes, rules and laws in the guidelines
set out by the Amateur Swimming Association (ASA).
- Recognise and abide by the Club rules and Equity policy.
- Encourage all swimmers to obey the spirit of the rules
and ASA laws in and out of the pool.
- Treat other competitors and teams with respect in
victory and defeat. Help the swimmers to recognise good
performance, not just results.
- Display consistently high standards of behaviour,
hygiene and appearance.
- Observe the authority and decisions of the coach and all
officials.
- Never ridicule or shout at a swimmer for making a
mistake or losing a competition.
- Develop an appropriate working relationship with
swimmers based on mutual trust and respect.
- Make sure all activities are appropriate to the age,
ability and experience of those taking part.
- Promote good sportsmanship and the positive aspects of
swimming.
- Hold appropriate valid qualification and insurance cover
and be able to present them on request.
- Treat all personal information about individual members
as confidential except in exceptional circumstances
regarding health and safety, medical requirements,
disciplinary action or in accordance with the ASA child
protection procedures and guidelines.
- Never exert undue influence over performers to obtain
personal benefit or reward.
- Never condone rule violations, rough play or the use of
prohibitive substances.
- Do not drink alcohol, smoke or take drugs either before
or during coaching sessions or competitions.
