EAST MIDLAND CHAMPIONSHIPS 2016

Over the weekend of 30th April - 2nd May, Rushden Swimming Club took 15 swimmers to the East Midland Regional Championships at Ponds Forge in Sheffield. A fantastic weekend was had by all with many PBs being achieved.

Day 1 saw Ciara Usher and Philippa Kabi qualify for the 100m backstroke finals with Ciara gaining 2nd and Philippa 3rd in their age groups. Ciara also qualified for the 100m freestyle finals along with Freya Cole with Ciara taking 2nd place in her respective final.

Day 2 continued in the same way with more swimmers reaching finals. Nathan Jones - 400m freestyle, Philippa 200 backstroke and Ciara 200 freestyle, 2nd place and 200 backstroke, 3rd.

The final day brought more PBs and great swims from the rest of the team, who, after an already long weekend, we're ready to give their all. Freya qualified for the 50m breaststroke and 50m freestyle, Travis Boddington 50m butterfly, Harris Hoyte 50m butterfly, Marcus Eaton 50m butterfly, Jack Chapman 50m backstroke, Philippa 50m backstroke and Ciara 50m backstroke 2nd and 50m freestyle 2nd.
 
Rushden swimmers also put in solid performances in the relays. The boys 14/16 years freestyle and medley teams - Jack, Callum Protty-Gibbs, Harris, Nathan and Travis - finished in good positions. The girls 14/16 yrs freestyle team - Amber Bales, Chloe Bushell, Ciara and Freya finished a fantastic 6th out of 16. RSCs other team members - Molly Britchford, Charlie Savage and James Merriman also put in great performances with Brett Davies, swimming under Northampton, following in the same way.

Four weeks later it was the turn of the younger swimmers at Corby Pool. Olivia Snook had a good weekend qualifying for the final of the 50m butterfly. Grace Devlin-Hogg also qualified for the meet but was unable to attend.

Rushden Swimming Club have two swimmers qualify for the English Nationals taking place in August in Sheffield. Ciara Usher has qualified for 6 events and Brett Davies 3 events, huge congratulations to both.

A great end to the season, looking forward to more achievements in the next.
