Leicester Penguins Open Meet

12 Senior swimmers from Rushden Swimming Club attended the Leicester Penguins Open Meet in Braunstone. The swimmers were on a high on the Saturday with the presence of Liam Tancock; Olympian, 3 x World Champion, 4 x Commonwealth Games Gold Medalist and World Record holder in 50m Backstroke (L/C), also a director of Swimzi (our club kit provider).
Saturday saw all swimmers perform exceptionally well and we achieved a total of
11 Gold medals: Ciara Usher 50 Freestyle, 100m Freestyle & 50m Backstroke 14yr, Travis Boddington 100m Butterfly 14yr, Freya Cole 200m Breaststroke 15yr, Jack Chapman 100m & 200m Backstroke 14yr, Olivia Snook 50m Fly 13yr, Molly Britchford 50m Fly 17yr, Amber Bales 100m Individual Medley 15yr, Callum Protty-Gibbs 50m Breaststroke 14yr. 12 Silver medals: Nathan Jones 400m Freestyle 15yr, Freya Cole 50m, 100m & 200m Freestyle & 100 IM 15yr, Amber Bales 200m Breaststroke 15yr,Travis Boddington 100m Backstroke 14yr, Marcus Eaton 100m Backstroke 16yr+, Callum Protty-Gibbs 100m Breaststroke & 200m IM 14yr, Molly Britchford 100m IM 16yr+, Jack Chapman 50m Backstroke 14yr. 6 Bronze medals: Molly Britchford 50m Freestyle 16yr+, Hannah Hawkins 200m Breaststroke, 100m IM & 50m Backstroke 16y+, Amber Bales 50m Butterfly 15yr, Nathan Jones 200m IM 15yr. The day was topped off with a photo shoot with Liam Tancock.
With only 10 swimmers competing on the Sunday we still achieved a fantastic medal haul of 10 Gold medals: Ciara Usher 400m Freestyle, 100m & 200m Backstroke, 14yr, Travis Boddington 50m & 100m Freestyle 14yr, Molly Britchford 100m Butterfly 16yr+ joint first, Amber Bales 100m Breaststroke 15yr, Nathan Jones 100m Freestyle 15yr, Jack Chapman 50m Backstroke 14yr, Hannah Hawkins 200m Individual Medley 16yr+. 10 Silver medals: Callum Protty-Gibbs 50m Freestyle, 100 IM 14yr, Marcus Eaton 50m, 100m Freestyle & 50m Backstroke 16yr+, Travis Boddington 50m Butterfly & 200m Freestyle 14yr, Nathan Jones 200m Freestyle 15yr, Amber Bales 200m IM 14yr, Molly Britchford 200m IM 16yr+. 10 Bronze medals: Jack Chapman 50m & 100m Freestyle & 100m IM 14yr, Amber Bales 100m Butterfly 15yr, Olivia Snook 100m Butterfly 13yr, Callum Protty-Gibbs 50m Backstroke & 200m Breastroke 14yr, Hannah Hawkins 50m & 100m Breaststroke 16yr+.
Marcus gave it everything he had left and put in a tremendous effort in the Men’s Skins event, the team were making as much noise as they could to support him but unfortunately he had to settle for second place on such a nail biting finish to the 50m Freestyle.
