A fantastic start to this year’s County Championships for Rushden Swimming Club, with 36 swimmers taking part at Corby International swimming pool during the weekend, proving that their hard work during training has paid off.

 

Day 1

The Open Mens 4x50m Medley relay team, Marcus Eaton, Jack Britchford, Charlie Savage and Ian Yarwood, put in a great performance and finished in 2nd place.  The Open Womens 4x100m Medley relay team, Philippa Kabi, Freya Cole, Molly Britchford and Amber Bales, continued with the medals and came in in 3rd place.

During the morning session, Brett Davies took 3rd in 13/15 years 400m IM.

The afternoon session continued with the excellent theme with the Boys 13/u 4x50m Medley relay team, Jack Chapman, William Merriman, Callum Protty-Gibbs and Aiden Kabi finishing in 5th.  The Open Womens 4x50m freestyle team, Bales, Cole, Claire Merriman and Britchford finished in a superb 2nd place and the Open Mens 4x100m freestyle relay team, Britchford, Eaton, Savage and Yarwood taking 2nd place.

Brett Davies this time took 1st place in the 13/15 years 200m Butterfly.

The evening session on day 1, held finals for the 50m and 100m events held earlier in the day.  Rushden had 18 swimmers competing in the finals. Those achieving medals were – Molly Britchford 2nd 16/over 50m butterfly, Jack Chapman 3rd 13yrs 50m backstroke, Freya Cole 1st14yrs 50m freestyle, Louis Boot 2nd 14yrs 50m backstroke, Brett Davies 1st 14yrs 50m backstroke, Marcus Eaton 3rd17/over 50m butterfly, Callum Protty-Gibbs 3rd 13yrs 100m freestyle, Phillipa Kabi 3rd 14yrs 100m backstroke.

 

Day 2

Our Girls 13/u 4x100m freestyle relay team, Olivia Snook, Olivia Beasant, Mollie Chapman and Gracie Ridout put in a great performance for a very young team and finished in 4thplace. The Open Womens 4x50m Medley relay team, Kabi, Cole, Britchford and Bales kept up their top performance and finished in 3rd.

Brett Davies also finished 2nd in the 13/15yrs 200m backstroke.

The afternoon session was just as exciting with the Girls 13/u 4x50m Medley relay team, Ashleigh Bales, Chapman, Snook and Beasant finishing in 6th and the Open Mens 4x50m freestyle team, Yarwood, Eaton, Savage and Britchford, putting in very much a ‘nail biting’ relay finishing in 2nd place – less than 2 seconds behind 1st place.

Brett Davies continued with his medal haul adding a 3rd place in the 13/15 yrs 400m freestyle.

The evening finals for day 2 saw 14 swimmers qualify. Ian Yarwood 2nd 17/over 50m freestyle, Phillipa Kabi 3rd 14yrs 50m butterfly, Callum Protty-Gibbs 2nd13yrs 50m breaststroke, Molly Britchford 2nd 16/over 50m freestyle, and Freya Cole 2nd 14yrs 100m breaststroke.

 

The weekend finished with 3 Golds, 11 Silvers and 9 Bronze medals. An outstanding performance from all involved at Rushden Swimming Club, and we hope to continue this over the second weekend of 21st/22nd February.
