Team Selection

Rushden is a competitive swimming club and we enter competitions with the aim of winning, or doing as well as we can. We therefore pick the fastest team available. The team list is drafted using the PB times of every swimmer for each event. The coaches then make adjustments to the team as they see fit; the coaches have the final word on selection.

The only way for a swimmer to break into the team is to become faster than a swimmer who is already in it, using splash nights, Club and County Championships, time trials and Open Meets to set times. Team selection is also influenced by availability and by age: having a birthday may promote you from one age band into the next and create an opportunity for a younger swimmer.

Each swimmer that is selected to represent the club will be informed by e-mail/letter/text, please respond to this notification as soon as possible. If, after accepting the invitation, you are unable to attend please inform the Competition Secretary as soon as possible so that a substitute swimmer can be found. A list of events will be posted on the Club noticed board along with a provisional team list. It is extremely difficult to notify swimmers of exactly what event(s) they will be taking part in before the gala. This is because late changes to the team can affect the balance of the team and therefore a number of swimmers may be swapped around. Please bear in mind that a number of the galas that the club takes part have 'cut off' times, this may result in some swimmers only being selected for relay events.
